Hello there! My name is Lanshen, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with proficient academic and hands-on clinical foundation in supporting individuals, relationships, and group across diverse cultural, developmental and diagnostic backgrounds. I provide therapy in both English and Mandarin.
My Approach
My approach to therapy is grounded in psychodynamic therapy incorporating CBT, experiential and narrative interventions. I believe that healing happens when we understand how our past experiences impact our ways of life and we embrace ourselves, which empowers us to move towards the life we want.
My Focus
I have experiences working with individuals, couple, and families navigating life-transitions, emotional struggles, neurodiversity, traumas, personality patterns, and interpersonal stressors.
My Communication
Style
My communication style is collaborative and attuned. I believe active listening brings detailed validation and deep understanding that allows clients to feel safe and being seen. I also keen on guiding clients noticing their strengths and promote their embrace of self, and thus promote self-agency and growth. I collaborate with clients to develop plans that are both therapeutically beneficial and suitable for clients' situations.
My Journey
My journey into mental health field starting from strong academic interest in criminology and psychological science which opened my eyes to deeply understand human complexity and lightened my passion towards supporting human life more. After assisting research in LGBTQIA+ community and spending more than a year working with children with autism, I learned how relational dynamics could potentially influence each member in the families/relationships. This led me to the world of studying marriage and family therapy. After another year of supporting students in college navigating their life and relational challenges, I learned how past-experiences shape our way of seeing this world and more importantly, ourselves. These experiences are not just how I supported my clients but how I learned and grew with them to strengthen my identity as a therapist and my commitment to this lifelong passion.
